Every grade, seal and colour on a product page is computed from that pack’s own declared nutrition panel — nothing is entered by hand, and none of it is an official regulatory mark. Here is exactly how each one is derived.
Computed with the Nutri-Score nutrient-profiling model: penalty points for energy, sugar, saturated fat and salt per 100 g, offset by points for fibre and protein. A lower total gives a better grade. Oils, ghee and nuts use the fats sub-scale (saturated-fat share of total fat). Fruit / vegetable content isn’t on the label, so it is treated as zero; drinks aren’t graded yet. A product is shown as Not rated when its panel is incomplete or only given per serving.
Great — Best-in-class — low in sugar, salt and saturated fat, usually with some fibre or protein.
Good — A sound everyday choice; slightly higher in one nutrient of concern.
Moderate — Fine occasionally — watch the portion size.
Poor — High in sugar, salt or saturated fat; best kept to a treat.
Avoid — Very high in sugar, salt and/or saturated fat — a rare treat only.
Black “Excess” seals are computed on the PAHO / WHO nutrient profile thresholds per 100 g. Indicative only; not an official seal. A seal shows when a threshold is crossed:
Values as declared on the pack. Sugars, Fat and Sodium are traffic-lit; the rest are shown for context only. "Not available" means the pack doesn't declare that nutrient at all.
Green — Low — Within the healthy range per serving (UK FSA front-of-pack thresholds).
Amber — Medium — Neither low nor high — a reasonable amount, but not free rein.
Red — High — Above the guideline amount per serving; the nutrient to watch on this pack.
Blue — Protein — Shown for reference — a beneficial nutrient, not scored.
Teal — Fibre — Shown for reference — more is generally better, not scored.
Grey — Carbs — Context only — no colour judgement applied.
